Migrate from ActiveCampaign

Move your contacts, lists, and tags from ActiveCampaign to GoodPostal. This guide walks through the entire process step by step.

Tip
ActiveCampaign prices by contact count and plan tier. GoodPostal is $19 a month plus 5 cents per 1,000 emails sent, with no per-contact pricing and every feature included. See pricing for the full breakdown.

Migration Overview

  1. 1

    Export contacts from ActiveCampaign

Export all contacts, or one export per list, as CSV files.
  2. 2

    Set up GoodPostal

Create your account, connect an email sending service, and verify your sender. See Getting Started.
  3. 3

    Import contacts

Upload the CSVs into GoodPostal, one group per ActiveCampaign list.
  4. 4

    Rebuild your templates

Recreate your campaign layout in the GoodPostal editor and swap the personalization tags.

Step 1: Export from ActiveCampaign

Exporting All Contacts

  1. 1

    Open the Contacts overview

Click Contacts in the left menu, then click the ellipsis (...) at the top right of the page and choose the export option.
  2. 2

    Name the export carefully

Avoid special characters (!, #, $) in the export name; ActiveCampaign will produce a text file instead of a CSV if the name contains them.
  3. 3

Pick your fields and run it

Select the fields to include. The export runs in the background; download it from Contacts > Exports. Download links stay valid for 7 days.

Exporting One List

Go to Contacts > Lists, open the list, set the Status dropdown to Active, and click Export. Exporting by status keeps unsubscribed and bounced contacts out of your file from the start.

Note
Tags arrive in a single column, and contact notes cannot be exported at all. Custom fields and scores are included.
Warning
Do not import unsubscribed or bounced contacts into GoodPostal. They opted out or hard-bounced; re-adding them as active contacts violates anti-spam regulations.

Step 2: Import into GoodPostal

  1. 1

    Create contact groups

Create a GoodPostal group for each ActiveCampaign list, or for each tag you actually send to.
  2. 2

    Rename the export headers

GoodPostal reads columns by exact name, so rename ActiveCampaign's headers to email, first_name, and last_name in a spreadsheet first. A file without a column literally named email is rejected.
  3. 3

    Import each CSV

On the Contacts page click Import and upload a file.
  4. 4

Put each batch in its group

The import has no group selector. After each import finishes, select the new contacts in the Contacts list and use Add to Group.
  5. 5

    Verify the counts

Confirm active contact counts match ActiveCampaign.

Step 3: Rebuild Templates

Warning
Pasting an ActiveCampaign HTML export into GoodPostal does not work. Those exports are table-based layouts, and GoodPostal's Code Mode only understands its own block markup, so the layout is dropped rather than converted.

Rebuild your layout in the GoodPostal editor, or have an AI assistant build it for you, then swap the personalization tags:

Merge tag mapping
%FIRSTNAME% - First name
%LASTNAME% - Last name
%EMAIL% - Email address
%UNSUBSCRIBELINK% - Unsubscribe link

What Does Not Migrate

  • Automations - ActiveCampaign's automation builder has no direct GoodPostal equivalent.
  • Deals and CRM pipelines - GoodPostal is a campaign platform, not a CRM. Keep pipeline data wherever your sales workflow lives.
  • Contact notes - ActiveCampaign cannot export them.

Post-Migration Checklist

  • Active contact counts match between the two platforms
  • Groups mirror the lists and tags you send to
  • Unsubscribed and bounced contacts were NOT imported
  • Email sending service is connected and verified
  • Templates rebuilt and a test email sent
  • Signup forms swapped to GoodPostal
  • ActiveCampaign subscription cancelled
Tip
Keep your ActiveCampaign account readable for a few weeks after migration until you have confirmed everything works in GoodPostal.
