Migrate from Kit (ConvertKit)

Move your subscribers, tags, and email marketing from Kit (formerly ConvertKit) to GoodPostal. This guide walks through the entire process step by step.

Migration Overview

   Export subscribers from Kit

   Download your subscribers as a CSV file, tags included.

   Set up GoodPostal

   Create your account, connect an email sending service, and verify your sender. See Getting Started.

   Import contacts

   Upload the CSV into GoodPostal and organize contacts into groups that mirror your Kit tags.

   Rebuild your broadcast template

   Recreate your broadcast layout in the GoodPostal editor and swap the merge tags.

Step 1: Export from Kit

   Open your subscriber list

   In Kit, go to Grow > Subscribers.

   Select everyone

   Click the checkbox at the top of the list, then click +Select all so the selection covers every subscriber, not just the current page.

   Export

   Click Bulk Actions > Export. Kit emails you a download link when the file is ready.

   Download promptly

   Export links expire after five days. The CSV includes email address, first name, all tags (in one column), custom fields, status, and created date.

Step 2: Import into GoodPostal

1. 1

   Create contact groups

   Create a GoodPostal group per Kit tag or segment you want to keep (e.g., "Newsletter", "Customers").

   Rename the export headers

   Kit exports headers like Email Address and First Name. GoodPostal reads columns by exact name, so rename them to email, first_name, and last_name in a spreadsheet first. A file without a column literally named email is rejected.

   Import the CSV

   On the Contacts page click Import and upload the file.

   Put the new contacts in a group

   The import has no group selector. After it finishes, select the new contacts in the Contacts list and use Add to Group.

   Verify the counts

   Confirm the subscriber count matches what Kit showed for active subscribers.

Step 3: Rebuild Templates

Kit broadcasts tend to be simple, text-forward emails, which rebuild quickly in the GoodPostal editor. Swap Kit's Liquid tags for GoodPostal merge tags:

What Does Not Migrate

• Sequences and automations - Kit's visual automations and sequences have no direct GoodPostal equivalent.
• Landing pages and forms hosted by Kit - Rebuild signup with GoodPostal subscription forms embedded on your own site.
• Paid newsletter billing - Kit's commerce features stay behind.

Post-Migration Checklist

• Active subscriber count matches Kit
• Groups mirror the tags you use for sending
• Unsubscribed and cold subscribers were NOT imported
• Email sending service is connected and verified
• Broadcast template rebuilt and a test email sent
• Signup forms swapped to GoodPostal
• Kit subscription downgraded or cancelled
